A Day in the
Country Delve into the true culture and life of Dubrovnik, when you spend a day in the country, visiting traditional villages abundant with romanticism, exquisite scenery and charm. Our drive takes us through a chain of villages in the Konavle Valley to the small village of Mihanici, where Mijo Šiša Konavljanin, a native, self-taught artist, will welcome us into his gallery. In his studio, which is based in his family home, he will treat us to homemade brandy and share with us his artwork. The intimacy of the village lifestyle does not end here, though. Departing Mihanici, our next destination in the Konavle valley is the home of the Glavic family. The Glavics have lived in their traditional style home for generations, producing grape brandy, olive oil and wine the same way that their ancestors did. Bringing in the tradition of the entire city, the Glavics will serve us a meal that you can only experience in the real homes of these villages. Locally-made sausages, potatoes, green salad and cake will all be served at lunch in the large dining room of the house, along with homemade wine. The family has experienced the many changes of Croatia, but have been able to maintain their traditional lifestyle, showing the true strength and dynamic nature of the city. After this hearty lunch, your motor-coach will take you back into the city life of Dubrovnik for a sightseeing tour before you join your ship. Notes: This tour has extremely limited capacity.
Dubrovnik City
Sights Dubrovnik is a city where travelers can renew themselves and their faith in human nature. Or, as George Bernard Shaw once marveled, "Those who seek paradise on earth should come to Dubrovnik." The awe-inspiring views, cliffs and city walls, which were built centuries ago, evoke an environment that still seems pure and untouched. After disembarkation, a city tour will guide you through path of beauty and vision. Driving by coach up the new panoramic road to the viewpoint will lead you to a spectacular sight of Dubrovnik and its Riviera. Here, you will be able to see the surrounding turquoise waters speckled with 1,185 islands, as well as the specific landmarks the city is famous for. The coach then takes you down to the Pile Gate, which marks the beginning of the main street, the Stradun. Along the way we will visit the inspirational Franciscan Monastery, the oldest functional European pharmacy established in 1317, and the Dominican Monastery, which houses one of the finest collections of Renaissance paintings in Dubrovnik. Although the monastery exhibits many fine local and Italian masters, its highlight is a painting done by Tizian in the 15th century. The Rector's Palace, our next destination, is famous for portraying the way the aristocracy and ruling class used to live. The Cathedral is built upon the remains of another cathedral, which was built in the 12th century and destroyed in 1667 by a disastrous earthquake. Its treasury currently contains one of finest collections of gold and silver in Europe. The tour will also drive through the city where you will see sites such as the Sponza Palace, notorious for its columned courtyard and elaborate stone carvings, the Church of Saint Blaise and Onofriou's Fountain. After the guided city tour, you will have some free time on your own, before returning to the ship by coach.

Trsteno Botanical Garden & Ston Highlights This tour ventures into the most beautiful botanical gardens of Croatia. Driving west along the coast the small village of Trsteno will lead to the Arboretum, which contains hundreds of different plants and trees from all over the world. The garden encompasses the old summer residence of the noble family Gozze-Gucetic, whose home and charming fountain still stand. Two gigantic plane trees are over 500 years old and are the biggest of their kind in all of Europe. After visiting the Arboretum, we will drive to the narrow isthmus connecting the Pelijesac Peninsula with the mainland. A small town called Ston is tucked away here, often referred to as a smaller version of Dubrovnik. Magnificent walls stretching for five kilometers took over 200 years to build and remain one of the longest defensive walls in the world. Ston is famous for its oyster farms and salt pans, which were mostly used during the Dubrovnik Republic. Notes: This tour has very limited capacity.
